Effects of farmyard manure compost and biodynamic preparations

Long-term trial at IBDF Darmstadt (since 1980)

scince 1992 Fertilizer and nutrient amounts

Third period (research focus: Yield formation and long-term effects)

As in the second period, the amounts of all fertilizers were calculated on the basis of their total nitrogen contents. At each fertilization level (low, medium, high) the same nitrogen amount was applied with organic and mineral fertilizer.

Nutrient amounts (kg ha-1) applied yearly with composted manure without (CM) and with (CMBD) biodynamic preparations and with mineral fertilizer (MIN) to cereals

Because fertilizer amounts were calculated on the basis of nitrogen contents alone, the amounts of phosphorus and potassium applied in the manure treatments varied from year to year depending upon the manure properties in a given year. The data presented in the table for CM and CMBD are averages of several years; in MIN the same amounts were applied every year.

Application dates:
To winter rye, manure was applied before sowing and mineral fertilizer in early spring. The second N application was during heading. To spring wheat, manure and mineral fertilizer was applied before sowing, the second time during stem elongation. The second application was calcium ammonium nitrate in MIN and liquid manure in CM and CMBD. Potatoes were fertilized before planting out. The legume crop remained unfertilized - only the horn manure and horn silica preparations were sprayed in CMBD treatment.

Nutrient amounts (kg ha-1) applied yearly with composted manure without (CM) and with (CMBD) preparations and with mineral fertilizer (MIN) to potatoes
