Effects of farmyard manure compost and biodynamic preparations
since 1992 Red clover
Third period (research focus: Yield formation and long-term effects)
Magnesium is an essential nutrient for plants and animals. On the significance of magnesium in human nutrition, particularly for people suffering from allergies, see for example WANGEMANN, M. (1994), Einfluß einer Magnesium-Supplementierung auf den Magnesiumstatus und die Symptome von Probanden mit saisonaler allergischer Rhinitis. Diss. Univ. Gießen.

With manure fertilization, Mg contents in soil and clover were higher. Although magnesium application with fertilizers was slightly lower in the organic than in the mineral treatment (15 instead of 20 kg ha-1 Mg at the medium level), more plant available magnesium has been analysed in the manure fertilized soil. The above ground clover parts also contained more Mg in the organic than in the mineral treatments. |
Note:
In this trial the legume crop always remains unfertilized in all treatments. Only the biodynamic preparations horn manure and horn silica were used in the CMBD treatment. The last organic and mineral fertilization was applied to the preceding rye crop.

Clover grown in the manure fertilized crop rotation will be a feedstuff richer in magnesium. Mg uptake has been higher in the organic treatments owing to the higher Mg content in the clover plants in combination with a trend towards higher yields. |
